Support for High Throughput DNA Sequencing and
Functional Genomics Units
The Bioinformatics Unit provides seamless data flow from data collection instruments to
databases, reliable data storage and management, and easy data access by users. The Unit
is equipped with a SGI Origin2000 Supercomputer with 16 processors, a Sun Enterprise
Server with dual processors, and many workstations. Oracle Database Management System is
the main database system for data repository at the Keck Center. We are currently involved
in several
genome projects.
Development
The Bioinformatics Unit is developing innovative data analysis tools and visualization
software and database resources for genomics research in collaboration with the Department
of Computer Science and National Center for Supercomputing Application (NCSA).
Collaborative
Research
The Bioinformatics Unit is conducting interdisciplinary research with UIUC faculty from
various departments in five different colleges. Please contact Dr. Thimmapuram for more information on research in
Bioinformatics.
Training
We will also provide training sessions and workshops for students and faculty to learn the
basics of bioinformatics including using various tools for database queries, data analysis
and data mining.
